Update: the survey is now closed. Thank you to everyone who participated.
Do you remember your first field recording kit? Do remember the thrill of using your new gear to gather your first field recordings in the wild?
You’ll also probably remember how hard it was to choose the right recorder and microphone. We all had these questions at one time: Which microphone is best? Will a portable recorder capture decent audio? How will a dedicated recorder hold up in the field? What’s the best choice for my budget?
New sound fans just beginning field recording face these same tricky choices. It’s hard to know which gear is best. Why? Well, it’s not always possible to try gear before buying. Let’s not forget that field recording equipment is expensive. That applies even more pressure to make the right choice.
Dozens of sound pro have contributed their field recording wisdom in the “A Month of Field Recordists” series (series 1, series 2). We’ve learned what gear they prefer, and how it helps them in their craft.
And what do you think? What kit do you use? What equipment is your favourite? What would be your dream kit, or the best budget kit?
Now it’s your turn to have your say.
A Field Recording Gear Survey
I set up a brief anonymous survey to learn about your favourite gear. Just check off whatever recorder, microphone, and portable you like. Don’t have any field recording gear yet? No problem. Select the equipment you have your eye on.
No question is mandatory. Just answer those you prefer.
The survey should take no longer than 3 minutes.
I’ll post the results in a future article to help those new to field recording choose the gear that’s right for them.
Thank you for your help!
